Last day:( Mi ultimo día:(

Well, today was my last day.  It involved some soccer (I kicked the ball and a kid completely wiped-out, my fault.  But we all, the kid included, thought it was really funny:), playing cards, a little bit of work, and a lot of fun!

Then we had SPAGHETTI for lunch.  It was Naomi's birthday (she is the other missionary here).  Her sister is visiting her, so she made spaghetti and cupcakes.  Then later we had another cake!!!!

Then after supper, they younger kids made me cards- so cute:)  And I said goodbye to them (lots of tears).

Then it was off to youth group.  We had a fun time and Edgar (20) and I played guitar together for the singing time!

Then it was time to say good bye to the older kids.  They gave me a card and Angel gave me a note and a picture that he had colored, and Miguel gave me a story that he wrote (1/2 in English)- it was part of a bet that we had made- hahahaha!  I think they are all going to go to the airport tomorrow morning, so I will get to see them again:)

Pues, hoy fue mi último día.  Jugamos fútbol (tiré la bola y un niño se cayó, mi culpa.  Pero, todos nosotros, y el niño, pensábamos que era muy gracioso:), jugamos cartas, trabajamos un poquito, y nos divertimos un montón!

Comimos SPAGHETTI para almuerzo.  Era el cumpleaños de Naomi (la otra misionera) y su hermana cocinó almuerzo.  Comimos cupcakes, y después, comimos bizcocho otra vez!!!!!!

Después de la cena, los niños chiquitos hicieron cartas para mí- tan lindo:)  Y, les despedí (con muchas lágrimas). 

Después de esto, fuimos al grupo de jóvenes.  Nos divertimos y Edgar (20) y yo tocamos guitarra para el tiempo de canciones!

Entonces, era tiempo para despedir a los niños grandes del hogar.  Me dieron una carta y Angel me dio una nota y un dibujo suyo, y Miguel me dio un cuento que había escrito (1/2 en inglés)- era parte de un pacto que hicimos-jajajaja!  Creo que todos ellos van a aeropuerto mañana, entonces les veré una vez más:)

2 days left!

Today the "tío" went to the city to run some errands.  So, that meant that it was another day of me being in charge (at least more than usual).  One of the women from church came, and Edgar (20) stayed around the house to help with the younger kids.  So, today was a day full of monitoring cleaning, homework, and behavior.  But, I did find some time to play piano with Angel (we have been talking about this since I arrived).  And, Miguel and I played 2 games of Othello- he beat me once, but only because I got my colors mixed up and made a wrong move at the end of the game:(

This evening I went to the director's house and had a really nice supper with them and the other missionary, Naomi, and her sister.  We ate spaghetti, garlic bread, and cheesecake!

Then I went back to the boy's home and had frenchfries, some spicy Guatemalan chicken, tortillas, and Guatemalan bread.  We stayed up looking at pictures, talking, watching a movie, and playing games- it wsa  a really fun time with them!

Hoy, el "tío" fue a la ciudad para ejecutar algunos recados. Por lo tanto, quesignificaba que era otro día de que yo esté a cargo (por lo menos más de lo normal). Una de las mujeres de la iglesia vino, y Edgar (20) quedó en la casa para ayudar con los niños más jóvenes. Por lo tanto, hoy fue un día completo delimpieza de supervisión, las tareas y el comportamiento. Sin embargo, sí encontréalgo de tiempo para tocar el piano con Angel (que hemos estado hablando de esto desde que llegué). Y, Miguel y yo jugamos dos juegos de Othello, me golpeóuna vez, pero sólo porque tengo mis colores mezclados e hizo un mal movimiento al final del juego: (

Esta tarde fui a la casa del director y tenía una cena muy agradable con ellos y el otro misionero, Naomi, y su hermana. Comimos espaguetis, pan de ajo y queso!

Luego volví a la casa del muchacho y había frenchfries, algunos picantes de polloen Guatemala, las tortillas y el pan de Guatemala. Nos quedamos mirando las imágenes, hablar, ver una película, y los juegos-que wsa un momento muy divertido con ellos!

3 more days AND parasites! 3 días mas Y parásitos!

Well, to make it short, I woke up today and I did not feel well at all.  After a while of being sick and talking with the people here, it has been decided that I probably have some sort of parasite in my stomach- grooooosssss!   So, I started to take the antibiotic that the doctor gave me before I came.  And, I feel pretty much better.  Still not 100%, but better than this morning.

This evening, I went to eat at the house of two sisters from church.  We had a really nice dinner (I ate a little).  Afterwards, some of the boys, one of the "tíos/ uncles" and I went to watch Edgar (one of the older teens) play soccer.  His team plays in the town plaza and they won!!!!!

Pues, para hacerlo corto, desperté enferma esta mañana.  Después de un rato de estar enferma y hablar con las personas aquí, hemos decidido que tengo algún tipo de parásito en mi estómago- ¡que asco!  Empecé a tomar el antibiótico que me dio el doctor antes de venir para acá, y empecé a sentirme mejor.  Todavía no me siento 100%, pero me siento mucho mejor que antes.

Por la tarde, fui a la casa de dos hermanas de la iglesia.  Comimos una cena bien buena (comí un poquito).  Después, algunos de los niños, un "tío", y yo fuimos a la plaza para ver a Edgar (uno de los jóvenes grandes) jugar fútbol.  ¡Ellos ganaron!

Today I woke up and ate FRENCH TOAST!!!!  Then I went to church with the family from Wisconsin.  I met the kids from the children's home there and I had to go sit with them because I had missed them the night before.  Almost all the kids gave me hugs and told me that they had missed me!

Some of the kids here like to use my camera to take pictures.  One teen in particular is always asking for the camera.  He is very responsible with it and so I let him use it.  The other day, I found out that this kid came to the home after stealing a camera from some tourists!  WOW!  It is amazing how he has changed:)

Hoy me levanté por la mañana y comí PAN FRANCES!  Después de esto, fui a la iglesia con la familia de Wisconsin.  Allí me reuní con los niños del hogar y fui a sentarme con ellos porque les extrañaba la noche anterior.  Casi todos los niños me abrazaron y me dijeron que me extrañaron!

Algunos de los niños aquí les gusta tomar fotos con mi cámara.  Un joven en particular siempre me pide la cámara.  Él es muy responsable y la cuida bien, entonces permito que la use.  El otro día, oí que este joven vino al hogar después de robar una cámara de unas turistas!  ¡WOW, él ha cambiado un montón!

5 days faltan!

Today was a busy day.  It was my day off and I had tons of fun!!!!  The only down-fall was that I don't think there is a Puerto Rican restaurant around here:(  But, the director of the orphanage and I went out to eat at a really cute and nice sandwich place in Antigua.  It was  a really nice time to get to know her more (now that the holidays are done, we actually have some time to talk) and learn about what it is like to run a children's home.

After lunch I met 4 of the girls from church at the market.  We went shopping at the local market (you do a lot of bartering and watching your purse so that it doesn't get slashed and stolen).  Then we went to the artisan market- this was really pretty!  Then we went to the plaza!  It was a really fun time to spend shopping with them.

After this, a family from church here in Guatemala picked me up to take me to their house to spend the night and visit with them.  The husband is from Wisconsin and went to college with someone from my church in Puerto Rico.  So, this family was one of my main connections when I was planning a trip here.    I walked into their house and there was HOME-MADE PIZZA, BREADSTICKS, and SALAD waiting- yummmmmm:)  Then for dessert we had BROWNIE SUNDAYS!!!!  After this we played Apples to Apples and some other games.  I had a really nice time with them!

Hoy fue un día ajetreado. Era mi día libre y había un montón de diversión!! Elúnico aspecto negativo fue que la caída no creo que hay un restaurante de Puerto Rico por aquí: (Sin embargo, el director del orfanato y yo fuimos a comer a un lugar muy lindo y sándwich de bonito en Antigua fue una realidad. buen momento para conocer a su más (ahora que las fiestas se hacen, en realidad tenemostiempo para hablar) y aprender sobre lo que es correr a casa para niños.

Después del almuerzo, me encontré con cuatro de las chicas de la iglesia en el mercado. Nos fuimos de compras en el mercado local (lo hace un montón detrueque y ver su bolso para que no se cortó y robo). Luego fuimos a los artesanosen el mercado que esto era realmente bonito! Luego fuimos a la plaza! Fue un momento muy divertido para pasar de compras con ellos.

Después de esto, una familia de la iglesia aquí en Guatemala me recogió parallevarme a su casa para pasar la noche y visitar con ellos. El marido es deWisconsin y fue a la universidad con alguien de mi iglesia en Puerto Rico. Por lo tanto, esta familia fue una de mis principales conexiones cuando yo estaba planeando un viaje aquí. Entré en su casa y no estaba en casa, pizzas, palitos de pan y ensalada de espera yummmmmm), entonces para el postre tuvimosDOMINGOS BROWNIE!! Después de esto hemos jugado manzanas con manzanas y algunos otros juegos. Me lo pasé muy bien con ellos!

Less than 1 week!

Today I woke up and, the normal update on the countdown to my departure began again.  This morning at 6:00am, we decided that I only had 5 days and 22 hours left at the home here:(

This morning, the "tio" went to the other town to register some kids for school there.  So, the teens and I were in charge.  In that time, we washed dishes, cleaned the dining room and kitchen, cleaned the outside porch, cleaned the house, and picked up/ organized clothes, shoes, lockers, drawers, and bedrooms!

After this, I did some more math with the kids- it is a really good thing that I like math, because I do a lot of it here!  We worked on multiplication tables and addition tables, depending on the level of the kid.  Then I gave them a timed test- the older kids were actually EXCITED about this- ¡WOW!  They are getting better and faster- this was really neat to see.

Then in the afternoon, most of the kids finished their homework before supper- yay!  One kid finished around 8 (2 hours earlier than yesterday:)

just a note about the food:  although I may think it is weird, all the food here is typical Guatemalan cuisine.  And the other day, I was telling one of the boys at breakfast that I thought, "I don't know how to make this mush, so I won't be able to eat it again in Puerto Rico."  We have also been eating a lot of different breads with our meals (instead of tortillas, and tortilla dough- I don't know the real name).  I have really started to miss the tortillas- I hope we have them again before I leave!  Little by little I am starting to think I will miss the food too!

Tonight, I got to help clean the "pila"!!!!!!!  The "pila" is their outside sink type thing.  In Guatemala, there are many "pilas" in the plazas and throughout the town.  If people don't have a "pila" in their house, then they go there to wash their clothes, etc.  We have a big one here at the home and Luis and I got to go inside it and clean it today!!!!!!

Tomorrow is my free day and I am going to see if I can find a Puerto Rican restaurant for lunch!

Hoy, después de levantarme, estaba recordada de los pocos días que me faltan para regresar.  A las 6 de la mañana, estábamos comiendo el desayuno y decidimos que solamente me faltaba 5 días y 22 horas aquí en el hogar:(

Por la mañana, el "tio" fue al pueblo para matricular unos niños en la escuela allí.  Mientras tanto, los jóvenes y yo éramos "los encargados".  Los niños y nosotros fregamos platos, limpiamos el comedor y la cocina, limpiamos el balcon, limpiamos la casa, y organizamos la ropa, los zapatos, los cajones, los lockers, y los cuartos!

Después de esto, practiqué matemáticas con los niños.  Es bueno que a mí me gusta las matemáticas, porque paso la mayoría del día ayudando con esto!  Hoy trabajamos los tables de multiplicación y sumas, según el nivel del niño.  Después de estudiar, les di un examen de tiempo- los niños grandes estaban EMOCIONADOS- ¡WOW!  Están aprendiendo, mejorando, y haciendo su trabajo más rápido- es bueno ver esto.  

Por la tarde, la mayoría de los niños terminaron sus tareas antes de cenar- ¡yay!  Un niño terminó a las 8pm (2 horas mas temprano que ayer:)

Una notita acerca de la comida:  Aunque la veo raro, toda la comida aquí es típica de Guatemala.  Y, el otro día, dijé a un jóven que estaba pensando, "No sé como cocinar este mush, entonces no voy a poder comerlo en Puerto Rico."  También, hemos comido mucho pan con las comidas (en vez de comer tortillas, etc).  Ya extraño comer las tortillas- espero que volvamos a comerlas antes de irme!  Poco a poco estoy dando cuento de que voy a extrañar la comida también!

Hoy ayudé limpiar la pila!!!!!!  La pila es un lavadero/ fregadero que está ubicada fuera de la casa.  En Guatemala hay muchas pilas públicas en las plazas y por la ciudad.  Si la gente no tienen una pila en sus casa, van a las pilas públicas para lavar su ropa, etc.  Aquí en el hogar tenemos una pila y hoy Luis y yo nos metimos en la pila para lavarla!!!!!! 

Mañana es mi día libre.  ¡Voy a ver si puedo encontrar y almorzar en un restaurante puertorriqueño!

1 week to go:(

Today was another day of school.
I did math tutoring with half of the kids in the morning.  Then the other kids came home from school and I did homework with some of them until 10:00pm!  Then I stayed up for a while and played a card game with the older kids- I lost every round, but it was still fun:)

Hoy fue otro día de la escuela.
Por la mañana, di clases de tutoría de matemáticas con algunos de los niños.  Cuando los otros llegaron de la escuela, hicimos tarea hasta las 10:00pm!  Después, jugué cartas con algunos de los jóvenes- perdí cada ronda, pero fue divertido:)
